DUO EXHIBIT BETWEEN PAINTER AND PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTIST

TWO DISTINCT MEDIUMS & THE FEMININE DIVINE

We are pleased to announce the first show of the 2022 season, FRAME OF REFERENCE, opening Thursday, February 10th. The show is a collaboration between Jenny Long, abstract painter/owner of Long Gallery and award-winning photographer, Robert Kenney.

Gallery hours are Wed. through Sat. 11:30am to 4:30pm

Sundays from Noon to 4:00 pm

Thursday evening until 7pm

Artists will be in attendance all Thursdays from 3:30-7pm and all Sundays from noon to 4:00pm to expand on this very special body of work for gallery visitors.

Robert specializes in Wetplate Collodian, an early 19th century photographic process. The plates are handmade, fickle, messy and challenging to control. The resultant images are raw and revelatory.

Jenny was delighted to be able to select a few of her favorite photographs of Robert’s to create her abstract nudes as the inspiration to create her paintings, letting the language be fresh and open yet derived from his very felt and sophisticated work. She has been wanting to do a show of this nature since she moved back to Penticton in 2003, and is honored to be able to bring it to life with the caliber of Robert’s work.

Robert comments: “This show is about representing the female body in a way that transcends its immediate social and politicized implications and translations into recognition of the sublime. It is an invitation to see past social and cultural conditionings and to explore the intuition, mystery, sensuality, creation and oneness of the feminine. This show is sharing two distinct mediums with a common goal and thread joining to create artwork from a place that transcends time and space. The relationship is one of a mutual recognition of interests, process and play.”

Robert has received many awards over the years for a variety of work most notably in fashion, travel, portraiture and advertising. One of particular note is the 2019 Vancouver Fashion Week Recognition Award for his contribution to fashion in Vancouver over the past 25 years. Robert moved to the South Okanagan in 2020 and is a resident artist proudly represented by Jenny and the Long Gallery.
