ABSTRACT PORTRAITS with Jenny LONG

Thursday November 1st, 8th & 15th, 6:30-8:30pm

All supplies included, $189

Attendees will be introduced to the tools and techniques that Long uses as they watch her demonstrate the entire journey a painting of a portrait takes from beginning to finished state as well as create paintings of their own choice.  From the importance of color mixing as a foundational component to using a variety of tools and applications of paint to create interesting visual elements, Jenny will go through the process of beginning a work in an abstract expressionist manner, followed by tonal build of a figure with palette knife acrylic applications and drawing techniques to marry the visual excitement that exists between balancing order with chaos.

Students will have the chance to create paintings of their own subject choice whether it be a bird, tree, person, etc.  For the first class however Long will take students through a full demo of her painting process from start to f with an emphasis on color mixing and acrylic painting techniques.

My work merges the school of abstract expressionism with the act of portraiture. In doing so, the paint itself is figurative--it is just as important as the person it is describing. The language of the ground is heated by emotional, instinctual play with the paint, which allows for the figure to be more than an individual caught in time, but an essence of being. “
